Special Information for Notre Dame Employees
ND employees are welcome to take classes in the Computer Science and Engineering Department as part of their employee benefits package. As of January 2012, benefits included one 3-credit graduate class per semester. Please see the HR website for current information.
Employees may take classes in one of two ways:
- Non-degree seeking employees may take CSE classes for professional development. Such students should obtain the approval of their supervisor, discuss with the course instructor to determine whether they have the appropriate pre-requisites, then enroll through the HR department each semester.
- Degree seeking employees may pursue either a terminal M.S. or a Ph.D. through part-time work. Such students must apply to the program in the usual way, and will be evaluated along with all other applications. Degree seeking students must also obtain the approval of their supervisor and enroll through the HR department each semester.
- Degree seeking employees are advised to carefully consider the time to completion. An M.S. degree requires eight 3-credit courses and the Ph.D. requires four 3-credit courses, followed by research and a dissertation.
- Employees considering a degree may take up to two classes as a non-degree student, then, if accepted into a degree program, apply those two courses toward the degree.
Further information can be found in the Graduate Handbook.
