eSeniorCare: Improving quality of life for seniors using Technology and Relationship Building
With the rising number of seniors and increase in life expectancy, it is very important to develop solutions to help the seniors' age well. Aging well includes management of physical, and cognitive health; as well as active social engagement. Hence, the tools developed should focus on improving on all the above mentioned areas. The increasing popularity of tablets among seniors should be exploited to build tablet based applications to support aging well.
We propose `"eSeniorCare" to help the seniors to age well. It is a combination of technology (tablet based application, a web portal) and relationship building (community health worker or CHW). The seniors have access to the application while the CHW has access to the portal. The seniors can track their medications, daily activities, and diet using the application. The portal provides information on missed medications, missed refill alerts and medication changes to the CHW so that he/she can take the necessary action. We are conducting a pilot at three independent living facilities to evaluate the usability and effectiveness of "eSeniorCare".
