"Learning and Inferring User Characteristics from Content-Rich Behavior Data"

Content consumption and generation is a major part of the Internet experience. Companies strive to improve user experience through personalization of services, recommendations, and newsfeeds. For this purpose, inferring user characteristics, such as demographic information, from their behavior would help understand their preferences. Through this proposal, we analyze the use of content-rich heterogeneous data from the perspective of different problems and techniques, in order to understand users in the domain of education and online content consumption. Since these domains commonly have an imbalanced distribution of users, we also explore the challenges and solutions for solving the imbalanced classification problem.
