IBM Internship Award - Sudip Vhaduri

Sudip Vhaduri

Sudip Vhaduri, a PhD candidate, has been awarded the IBM Zurich Summer Internship.  This is a highly competitive internship and an exciting opportunity. Congratulations, Sudip.

Sudip's area of research, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), is a progressive lung disease which causes breathlessness and is often caused by cigarette smoke and air pollution. By 2030, it is expected to be the third leading cause of death worldwide according to the World Health Organization. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) reports that by 2020 the expected cost of medical care for adults in the US with COPD will be more than $90 billion, mainly due to complications and multiple hospitalizations.

Sudip will be working on identification of disease progression and prediction of exacerbations of the disease using multisensor data-driven machine learning techniques to help doctors and patients in order to prevent exacerbations and also provide personalized virtual coaching to improve medication adherence and activity level.
