Niemier and Taflanidis among Joyce Award Winners

Two of the 21 winners of the University's Joyce teaching excellence awards are from engineering: Michael T. Niemier, computer science and engineering, and Alexandros A. Taflanidis, civil and environmental engineering and earth sciences. They have been identified in recognition of their profound influence on undergraduate students through sustained exemplary teaching.

Uhran Named 2014 ASEE Fellow

John J. Uhran Jr., senior associate dean emeritus and professor emeritus of computer science and engineering, has been named a Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). The grade of Fellow is conferred upon an individual who has been an ASEE member for a minimum of 10 years and in recognition of his or her outstanding contributions to engineering or engineering technology education.

Bowyer To Receive IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award

Kevin W. Bowyer, the Schubmehl-Prein Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame, has been named a recipient of the 2014 Institute of Electrical and Electronics (IEEE) Computer Society’s Technical Achievement Award. Bowyer is being recognized for his “pioneering contributions to the science and engineering of biometrics” and will receive the award, along with the four other honorees, during a ceremony to be held in Seattle, Wash., in June 2014.
