Ramzi Bualuan, teaching professor and director of undergraduate studies in computer science and engineering, is the recipient of the 2025 College of Engineering Outstanding Mentoring Award.
Outstanding mentors go beyond guiding students’ academic achievements—they foster students’ professional and personal development, and generously share their time, effort, and insight to ensure students’ well-being and success.
Nominations for the Outstanding Mentoring Award are solicited each year from among all of the sophomores, juniors, and seniors in the College of Engineering. The nominations are then evaluated by a committee of ten undergraduate students—two from each of the five departments, and three faculty members.

Students praised Bualuan for his personal warmth and extensive knowledge of opportunities both on and off campus. Many said that they had benefitted from his “great career advice” and willingness to connect them with former students in a wide range of industries. Nominators also emphasized his pivotal role in their career discernment, with one noting, “His advice and guidance were key in helping me figure out which positions best fit my skills and interests.”
Students also highlighted Bualuan’s involvement with Women in Computer Science (WiCS), the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (GHC)—the world’s largest conference for women technologists—and Notre Dame’s global gateway programs as especially helpful in charting their academic and professional trajectories.
Additionally, Bualuan is the recipient of the 2022 ND Women in Engineering Impact Award, which honors a faculty or staff member in the Notre Dame College of Engineering “who has made a dramatic positive impact on women’s engineering experience” through teaching and mentoring; service and support; and advocacy for women in engineering.
